From the Rehearsal Studio – Week 1

What we did in the first session

“War with the birds! Down with the birds! The birds ate all the berries!”

We shouted those phrases as we began the first session of TJP 2016 Winter Season. This season, we opened with a small but very cute and funny participants! Some were shy, others were enthusiastic, but everyone shone in their own ways.

This season, in order to put up the best performance, we have to learn more about the story and the characters we are playing. We played games and did activities to slowly but eventually get to know our characters. We also did activities to strengthen teamwork, build our confidence and control our voices.

Learning stage directions

Besides that, we also learned some theater basics. Learning stage directions was a challenge, but I think we kind of got it, didn’t we? No? We will have to do this activity again in the upcoming weeks!

I wonder what we’ll be doing in the next session. Is it time to get our scripts and get down to memorizing? Not so fast because we’re taking things one step at a time and breaking the script down into parts. We will rehearse part by part until everyone is confident of their lines and positions. This will also be a good time for the participants to chip in and share their ideas too. The final performance will ultimately be a product of the participants’ contribution and hard work.

Waiting for cues

This Sunday, get ready for a new set of activities as we learn more about theatre and start with the script. Hopefully we’ll gain more knowledge this week too! Can’t wait!

For those who have yet to sign up, we’re still accepting sign-ups! Go HERE for more details and to sign up.

Or if time is not on your side this season, look out for our one-day workshops or our next season! Looking forward to meeting cute budding actors at Tokyo Junior Playhouse!
