From the Rehearsal Studio – Week 2

Practicing the first two lines of a poem

Practicing the first two lines of a poem

“…small door”

That is a very very very short excerpt of the poem that we’ll be reciting in our play. Memorizing poems proved to be difficult for the participants, so we added some rhythm and actions to it, and they did much better! We also played some games to help with memorizing the lines. We’re slowly learning our lines in the upcoming weeks, so let’s all be ready!

In every session, we cover many aspects of theatre such as voice modulation and miming. We also build teamwork and explore our creativity, which also helps in our acting. It seems like our teamwork is amazing! We played a game of untangling hands and… wow! We did it in such a short time!

Mirroring

Mirroring

We did a new activity this week- mirroring. It was hilarious!! And educational too, because we were more aware of our movements. The participants had a blast “torturing” each other with difficult movements to be mirrored. We should do this more!

Designing our costumes

Designing our costumes

We also started brainstorming costume ideas. As mentioned before, we’re letting the participants chip in and share their ideas. The participants let their creativity flow in this activity. This is a good way for the participants to understand the process of staging. But… but… because of our theme for this season, it was difficult to design the costumes! We’ve drafted the help of the participants’ parents too, so let’s hope that we can create beautiful costumes!

In the next session, we will start designing the backdrop and props. I wonder what the participants will come up with this time- definitely something to look forward to!

Our final performance will be on March 6 (Sunday) at Futako Tamagawa Chiku Kaikan Bekkan. Please come and support us!!
